Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It follows the continuing adventures of Victor Crowley and his murderous rampage through Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.
The practical effects in the film are the film's biggest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes in the movie.
The cast is solid, with Kane Hodder proving to be an intimidating villain. The dialogue is so funny and tongue-in cheek that it could feel like a classic '80s horror movie. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout that provide comedic contrast against (blog post) all of the heart-wrenching action.
Because the budget was $1 million, most locations were reused from earlier movies. The boat house used twice in the film was one example. A lot of the film feels like it was recycled from other movies within the series. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel the film is familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very similar to other entries in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
